2013, les travaux continuent sur l'Hermione - Les visites aussi!

L'équipe des gréeurs du chantier, en présence de nombreux visiteurs et adhérents de l'Association Hermione-La Fayette a procédé au guindage, c'est le terme de marine consacré, des mâts du deuxième niveau de l'Hermione.

Le deuxième niveau de la mâture est posé
Ces opérations se sont déroulées samedi 13 avril à l'historique, manuellement à l'aide de guinderesses tournées par les gréeurs aux cabestans de l'Hermione.

Avec l'aide du petit cabestan sur le pont de gaillards, les hommes ont hissé à l'avant, le petit mât de hune pour le mettre en place au dessus du bas mât de misaine, et à l'arrière, le mât de perroquet de fougue, pour le positionner au dessus du bas mât d'artimon.


Pour élever le grand mât de hune, les équipes ont actionné le grand cabestan depuis le pont de batterie.

Après cette dernière manœuvre, l'Hermione culmine aujourd'hui à 38 mètres de hauteur.

A 17h00, l'ensemble des pièces constituant le deuxième niveau de la mâture était à poste.

Les opérations de pose de mâts se poursuivront sur une nouvelle journée programmée le vendredi 17 mai, et la pose en public du 3ème niveau de la mâture, avec pour le mât de misaine et le grand mat, les petit et grand mât de perroquet, le mât de perruche pour l'artimon et enfin, l'élévation du bout dehors à l'avant.

Au programme de cette journée, seront aussi installées les vergues basses, ensemble de pièces horizontales sur lesquelles seront installées les voiles.

La mâture de l'Hermione est réalisée en lamellé collé de pin d'Orégon. Les ferrures et cerclages des mâts ont été fabriqués par l'atelier forge du chantier.

Enfin les pièces du gréement dormant, assemblage des cordages et poulies, qui permettent de fixer les mâts au navire, ont été exécutées à l'ancienne par l'équipe des gréeurs du chantier. Le gréement de l'Hermione, en fibres naturelles, à l'identique de celui du navire d'origine : une réalisation unique au monde.

Les visites du chantier de l'Hermione
Rappelons que le chantier de l'Hermione est ouvert à la visite tous les jours et que l'on peut venir y découvrir le travail des artisans qui construisent le navire pas à pas.

Deux visites sont possibles, un parcours libre sur le chantier et sur le pont supérieur du navire (sans réservation) et une visite guidée 'au Cœur de l'Hermione' (réservation sur internet très vivement conseillée).

The Atlantic Cup returns
Longest offshore race in the Western Atlantic dedicated to the Class40 will start from Charleston, one year from today. The race was created in 2011 to showcase short-handed, offshore racing with hard fought competition and exciting shore based events, while also being the most environmentally sustainable sailing race in the United States. The Atlantic Cup has been carbon neutral since 2012 and was the first and is the only sports event in the U.S. to be ISO 20121 compliant.

The bottom line is that with declining participation, the event has become heavily dependent upon sponsorship making the event unsustainable in its current format.
