18ft Skiffs, 3-Buoys Challenge, Race 7 was held on Sunday 1st December 2013 on Sydney Harbour. Race 7 was like trying to pull a rabbit out of a hat at a Doberman convention... Rag & Famish Coopers 62's crew of Jack McCartney, Mark Kennedy, and big Peter Harris managed to pull one out, up the last extremely tricky beat, to lead the chasers back to the finish line.
From the start of the race the crews were chasing rabbits, elusive puffs of breeze, that might pull them up towards the windward turn marks. Funnily, Kenwood - Rabbitohs, last weeks tear away winner again, with a large rabbit on its mainsail, and like a rabbit, disappeared around it's first Red turn buoy to control a two min. plus lead at the bottom... back to back wins? Unfortunately not, as it turned out, the race had at least five different leaders, up the three beats and rounding of the windward turn marks. Mojo Wine, Chris Nicholson, Mike McKensey, and Ricky Bridge stayed focused on the shifting and fickle 'rabbits', taking a well played, second place, in front of Sydney City Marine, David Witt, Tom Clout, and Keegan York narrowly holding out Asko Appliances fourth, to Kenwood - Rabbitohs in fifth. Mojo Wine is now alone on Scratch for next Sunday's final race of the series.
