Tasar Nationals - Tight at the top

by Stuart Templeton on 3 Jan 2013
IMG 1128 Stuart Templeton
The Tasars hit the water for their first races in 2013 and race day three of the Southern Diesel and Marine 40th Tasar Nationals

With the fleet being aggressive on the start line we saw general recalls in both races and then straight to the black flag.

Nicole and Rob Douglass had a glamour day on the water with a comfortable win across the line in both races only to find out they were over in the second race of the day. Even with the BFD, Rob and Nicole maintain a close lead over the American team Michael Karas and Molly Jackson and Hugh Tait and Tara McCall rounding out the top three. Michael Quirk sailing with Marise Hannaford from NSW and Top placed female helm Heather McFarlane and Chris Payne from VIC were the most consistent boats of the day with a third and first, and fourth and a second respectively. Quirky sailed both races with a purple wig, photos to follow.

Twenty one competitors have now been black flagged in this regatta and with the temperature rising to hover around the 40 mark for the next couple of days it will be interesting to see how this will affect the competition. Only three races left and this regatta is still wide open.
