The beginning of the new year also means St. Maarten Regatta time with two upcoming events. Organizers of the St. Maarten Regatta are excited to announce the fourth edition of the Beach Clean-Up and the 17th Regatta Art Competition!

The first event is the annual Beach Clean-Up, which will take place on Saturday, January 9th from 8AM till 12:30 PM at Kim Sha Beach. The St. Maarten Regatta gives something back to the island of St. Maarten with this event. Together with the local kids the organization will clean one of the most polluted beaches of the island, which also is one of the St. Maarten Regatta party locations.

The morning of the clean-up will start with a presentation from Tadzio Bervoets, manager of the Nature Foundation, who will explain the effects of pollution on our marine life and promote environmental awareness to the kids. The clean-up will then begin and the kids will do their utmost best to collect as much garbage as possible, because the team with the most garbagewin a huge prize sponsored by Random Wind. The day ends with fun sport activities led by LAB Sports Academy.

'With all these nice activities, the clean-up is a fun way for kids to get their community service hours. We will make sure all of the kids receive a participation certificate to make it official!' says organizer Fleur Visser. 'I can't wait to see how many kids will show up and the amount of garbage we will collect this Saturday!'

The next event on the agenda is the Regatta Art Competition, a fun contest open to children between the ages of 4 -18 years. Children will have to complete assignments which are divided per school group. Professional judges will judge the art after they have been handed in at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club or at both Van Dorp locations. There will be a first, second and third place winner for each assignment per school group. These winners will be rewarded with great prizes sponsored by local businesses. Packages with the assignments were sent out digitally and will be handed out to all Dutch side schools by the end of this week. The packages can also be collected at both Van Dorp locations and at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.

Each year organizers add new, fun assignments to the package, challenging the children's creativity. This year some of the assignments are: designing a burgee, a trophy, volunteer t-shirts and building a boat. 'It is wonderful to see how creative these kids are and I would love to use their creativity for the regatta by using their designs for trophies, t-shirts and flyers.' concludes Fleur.

Please note the following dates:
Deadline assignments: The pieces of art must be handed in before Sunday January 31st at both Van Dorp locations and the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.
Prize giving ceremony: Sunday February 7th - 3PM sharp at the Sint Maarten Yacht Club.
