On Monday, the Weymouth and Portland National Sailing Academy (WPNSA), together with Weymouth and Portland Borough Council, celebrated the success of Skandia Team GBR in Qingdao with a home coming reception.

Six of the Skandia Team GBR including double gold medallist Sarah Ayton, gold medallists Andrew Simpson and Paul Goodison and bronze medallist Bryony Shaw, were greeted by thousands of Weymouth locals as they were escorted through the town on an open top bus.

On arrival at WPNSA the team attended a press conference before spending time with those who had come to support them. Each of the medal winners will also be made honorary life-time members of the Academy.

Mark Stubbings, Chief Executive at WPNSA commented,

'We are delighted to welcome home so many of our Olympic heroes. We were all captivated by the dramatic success which the team achieved out in China and we are now very much looking forward to assisting them in their quest for even greater glory in 2012’
