Skandia Cowes Week - Final day

by Sue Pelling/CWL on 9 Aug 2008
Skandia Cowes Week race in action from the Royal Yacht Squadron Platform onEdition http://www.onEdition.com

Make the most of the sunshine this morning in Cowes if you're up and about early because it's going to cloud over and rain soon.

Although the sun is shining this morning here in Cowes for the final day of Skandia Cowes Week, weather expert Chris Tibbs tells us it won't last long. But the good news is, there'll be some wind.

Apparently there is a warm front moving eastwards along the south coast expected at Cowes early afternoon. This will provide an increasing south-westerly wind through the morning.

After a brief clear spell cloud will quickly move in from the west with rain from about 1100. The rain will ease late afternoon before another band of rain arrives this evening.

Those who are still racing can expect a west-south-west backing south-south-west breeze increasing from 10-15kts this morning to 20kts by midday.

This afternoon between 1200 and 1500 the wind will veer from south-south-west to south-west and remain between 15-20kts before it increases in strength later
