Record fleet for 2013 Sail Port Stephens feeder race this Sunday

Newcastle to Port Stephens Race Kaz Crump
Sail Port Stephens, now in its sixth year, is continuing to grow and the support of two other yacht clubs have been significant in its success.
The Royal Prince Alfred Yacht Club in Pittwater and the Newcastle Cruising Yacht Club (NCYC) both run feeder racers to encourage yachts to head north from Sydney to Port Stephens.
On Saturday 13th April, the fleet heads out of Pittwater and with free berthing on Saturday evening for competitors entering the Newcastle Port Stephens Race the following day it will be a busy night at the NCYC. Then on Sunday a record fleet will sail in the 2013 Auto Advantage Newcastle Port Stephens Race.
NCYC´s Richard Howard says is this is shaping up as a great contest with 34 entries received for Sunday’s coastal dash with an impressive line-up of entries in the 30 to 50 footer.
The Line Honours and Handicap battle will be tight, says Howard with boats to watch out for including the Kernan 44 Swish, Corby 43 Anger Management, DK 46 Nine Dragons, Sawyer 44.9 Colortile, Mat1245 Obsession, Farr 36OD Toy Story as well as Farr 40 ODs PT73, Long Time Dead and Iota.
If the wind is on the nose or beam the ‘maxi boat’ in the fleet (relatively speaking) Margaret Rintoul V will pose a challenge to knock off for first past the post. The incoming fleet will finish off the d’Albora Marina outer wall on what is expected to be a warm Sunday afternoon and it should be another great spectacle. Registration starts on Sunday afternoon and Racing in Sail Port Stephens 2013 commences on Monday morning.
