PredictWind forecasts good breeze for Qingdao

by Jon Bilger on 11 Sep 2008
PredictWind Strength and Direction for 12 September at Noon - Paralympics - Qingdao PredictWind.com www.predictwind.com

The expert wind forecasting model, PredictWind.com is predicting moderate breezes for the next five days of the Paralympic Regatta at Qingdao, China.

Weather forecasting is provided by PredictWind.com, whose founder Jon Bilger was in charge of the weather team for the Alinghi team - America’s Cups winner in 2003 and 2007.

Bilger told sail-World today that 'Winds are expected 10-15knots all week from the Easterly quarter. '

(An easterly direction is parallel with the coast at Qingdao)

Since the 2008 Olympic Regatta the Predict Wind system has been adjusted to calculate wind strength and direction at a height of 10metres instead of the previous 40metre height.

Note: PredictWind uses dual inputs into the weather model - from CMC (Canadian Meteorological Centre) and GFS (Global Forecast System / NOAA). With two comparative forecasts, when they both agree, a higher degree of confidence in the forecast is attained.
