Pacer Nationals - Beautiful day but a dying breeze

The Pacer Nationals 2013 did not live up to the expectations of the audience and even the sailors despite a sunny weather on Wednesday as dying breeze in the afternoon led to a shortened course in the second of the long races.

Race leaders Alan and Nathan Riley are 'very happy' with their position going into the last day tomorrow sitting in first place with a 4.5 point lead over Phil and Jack Chadwick.

Second at last years Nationals the Rileys were keen to take the title at their home club. With 'Nathan bigger and stronger than last year we thought we would have a good chance this year' commented Alan. 'While we are still improving our spinnaker handling which means we’re not the fastest boat downwind we’ve had another year sailing together building our experience as a team'.

With one long race tomorrow the Rileys are on 16 points with Phil and Jack Chadwick on 20.5.

The Chadwicks had a better day today with a bullet and a second moving them up to second. In contrast Murray and Liam O’Brien had a less successful day with a fourth in the second long race leaving him in third.

Cousins Brody and Corey Riley have the Junior/Junior title virtually sown up as they are in sixth place on 57.5 points with the nearest rivals for the title down the fleet in 15 place Emma Martin and Georgia Strong 2822. Martin and Strong are the leading all female boat.

With one long race remaining tomorrow it is shaping up to be a battle for second and third with just 1.5 points between Chadwick and O’Brien. Peter and Lauren Kemp 3011 are in with an outside chance as sit in fourth on 27 points.

Chris and Ella Dean 2555 from Christies Sailing Club are the first non-spinnaker boat in seventh place.
