P&B Phantom Mid Winter Championship Preview

Saturday 16 February will see the delayed Phantom Mid-Winter Championships at Northampton SC. The event is supported by Pinnell and Bax Sailmakers and marks the first real fleet racing opportunity of 2008, after some successful Phantom performances in the Winter Handicap Events, notably the Grafham Grand Prix and Battle of the Classes Pursuit.

Interest in the Class remains strong with Lawrence Crispin, the 2003 and 2004 National Champion returning to the Class after some serious Melges sailing, and Jim Hunt rumoured to be looking into a new boat. Sail numbers are now into the 1300's!

On Saturday competitors will be trying to dethrone, the (previously) almost unbeatable Andy Couch, who has dominated the class during 2006 & 2007, now sporting the new P&B ODL04 Sail in black for the 2008 season!

The usual suspects will hope to challenge with the local Northampton posse of Gulliver, Childs and Wayling looking to upset the odds. The long range forecast predicts 9-10 knots of wind so the 'skimmers' will again be happy led by Smith and Young ?? Should be a great start to the season. First Race 11.00 am.
