Steinlager ANZAC 18fters- Day 2 - That’s what was in the brochure!

by Sail-World on 26 Apr 2013
C-Tech - Day 1 ANZAC Skiff Championship, April 25, 2013 Brad Davies-LiveSailDie.com http://www.livesaildie.com

The crews that persevered through tough conditions on day 1 of the Steinlager 18ft Skiff ANZAC regatta were richly rewarded today with almost perfect skiff racing conditions.

The 18-20 knot south-westerly breezes bought flat water and some incredibly spectacular high-speed down wind sailing, the likes of which only the 18 footers are capable.

The hometown heroes were at it again with C-Tech showing some impressive boat speed early in the day, taking out races one and two. After making some overnight repairs to damage sustained to their transom when hitting a mooring line, Yamaha Grey came out swinging today, picking up a win in race three. These performances stretched the lead of the two top Kiwi teams over the Australians, with C-Tech on a total of 12 points leading Yamaha by one point and Delonghi-Kenwood and Thurlow Fisher Lawyers, seven and 12 points behind.

Today’s change of format to windward leewards from harbour courses meant that racing was significantly closer, with a few top mark pileups. Thankfully there was no major damage sustained by any of the teams, and all are looking forward to another day of blasting around the harbour.

Tomorrow the drop should come into play, which will tighten up the top of the results table, as Thurlow Fisher are carrying a 13th as the result of a DNF in Race 1.

The regatta concludes on Sunday afternoon.
