Legends of Australian Sailing attend official regatta opening night

by Dan Cowan on 23 Jan 2007 Sailors, friends and a few legends of the sport enjoyed some seafood and local wines last night as the Pre-World and Australian Championships were officially opened.

Fresh South Australian Prawns, Mussels and Oysters were the order of the night complimented by Asian food and local Beers and Wines. A team of volunteers were on standby willing to teach many of the overseas competitors how to shell the delicious prawns!

Sir James Hardy gave a magnificent speech and spent the remainder of the night talking with many sailors who were keen to listen. It was a wonderful opportunity to socialise with one of Australia’s greatest sailors.

Also in attendance was Australia’s first 505 World Champion Brian Price, legendary boat builder David Binks and Ian Gray, Commodore of Brighton & Seacliff Yacht Club when the 1963 Worlds were held here.

It was a fantastic way to open the regatta and is one of many exciting social functions planned for the Pre-World, Australian and World Championships over the next two weeks. Events include a kids and wives afternoon, games night and the formal presentation night at the Stamford Grand.
