Team Pindar‘s World Match Racing Champion, Ian Williams, begins his pursuit to increase his lead in the 2008 World Match Racing Tour standings, at Match Race Korea, which takes place from June 11 – 15 at Jeongok Marina. Williams and Team Pindar, who currently lead the 2008 series by one point, have had a promising start to the season, reaching the semi final stage in both the Brazil Sailing Cup and Match Race Germany, finishing third and fourth respectively.

Williams will face tough competition from the likes of Bjorn Hansen (SWE) and his Alandia Sailing Team, who are trailing Team Pindar by just one point and America’s Cup talent Paolo Cian (Team Shosholoza), winners of the Brazil Sailing Cup in April.

New on the World Match Racing Calendar, Match Race Korea promises to be one of the most impressive on the 2008 tour. Taking place at an exciting new shoreside venue, located in Jeongok Marina in Hwaseong City, the 12 participating teams will compete for the biggest prize money on the World Match Racing Tour in a fleet of new 36-foot Bakewell-White designed KM 36’s purpose built for the event, the first racing yachts to be both built and sailed in Korea.

The event will be broadcast live to a worldwide audience, with excellent onboard footage thanks to the new fleet featuring a cameraman’s cupola in the deck where there would usually be the main companionway, the perfect position to film all the action.

Ian Williams, speaking from Jeongok Marina ahead of the first race said:

'Korea promises to be a spectacular event and we are looking forward to racing new boats designed and built specifically for this regatta, which will test a whole range of skills. It is exciting for all skippers to be competing in a new location on the tour and Team Pindar would be thrilled to come out of the Korea Match Cup with a greater lead in the 2008 Tour.'
