Hobart to host Wooden Boat Festival

by Australian Wooden Boat Festival on 12 Jan 2011
Australian Wooden Boat Festival SW
Celebrating our nation's rich maritime culture and heritage, the Australian Wooden Boat Festival has established a reputation as one of the Australia's best maritime events.

Moving back to Hobart, the festival will be staged February 11-14, and will be a spectacular 4-day celebration of maritime culture and craftsmanship. Now recognised as the most significant event of its kind in Australia, the Festival not only attracts visitors from all over the world, but boats from far and wide are on display on the water and on the docks.

The Festival welcomes wooden boats of all shapes and sizes. From Tall Ships to model boats. Boats driven by steam, by sail, by oar and by engine all take their place ashore or afloat.

The Australian Wooden Boat Festival is much more than wooden boats. It is a music festival. It is a food festival with cooking demonstrations and tastings. Come along and look at our Japanese and Indonesian Villages. For lovers of art we have a scrimshaw display, an Alan Villiers photogrphic display, maritime art displays and a display of quilting and stitching. There are lots of hands-on activities for children in and out of the water.

Six Tall Ships will be in Hobart for the 2011 Festival including James Craig, One and All, Enterprize, Young Endeavour, Windeward Bound and Lady Nelson.

Entry to the festival is free, and organisers are looking for volunteers for various positions during the event.
