German team keeps on waiting

by Oliver Laskowsky / United Internet Team Germany on 19 Apr 2007
Waiting at the Louis Vuitton Cup: German sailor Jan Schoepe is posting the weather condition under his feet. Wonder if he kept the same words on for Day 3? Heinrich Hecht / United Internet Team Germany

The wind is still missing in Valencia – even on the third day of the Louis Vuitton Cup all races were abandoned.

For the United Internet Team Germany this meant a cancellation of the races against Victory Challenge from Sweden and the Italian Mascalzone Latino Capitalia Team. 'The waiting is enough now – we want to go sailing now', says floater Jan Schoepe after another uneventful day.

Today’s abandoned races are already rescheduled: The match race against Victory Challenge will take place on Monday (23rd April), the duel against Mascalzone Latino will be repeated on Wednesday (25th April). The stand by is more and more an ordeal. 'We have now prepared for these races for two years, now we want to finally start', says Jan Schoepe.

The wind still has not the necessary force of seven knots. The next days will not show much of a change as experts say. The air over the Spanish mainland doesn’t heat up successfully. A sea breeze can not build because the temperature difference between land and sea is not big enough.

However sailors of all teams will not give up hope for the races tomorrow. Two difficult opponents will have to be matched: In the first race the German team races Emirates Team New Zealand. Then Team Desafio Español 2007 is waiting for the United Internet Team Germany.
