Greater Dublin Drainage initiative

by Irish Sailing Association on 9 May 2015
Fluorescent dye released - dye trace survey, 26th July 2012 Irish Sailing Association . http://www.sailing.ie
The Greater Dublin Drainage initiative is being developed to safeguard public health, improve and protect the environment, and facilitate employment, social progress and economic growth in the wider Dublin Region.

The project includes a proposed wastewater treatment plant at Clonshagh (Clonshaugh) and a marine outfall proposed to discharge 1km north-east of Ireland’s Eye (6km out to sea). The GDD Team expects to submit a planning application, including an Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and Natura Impact Statement (NIS) to A Bord Pleanála towards the end of 2016.

As part of studies required for the EIS, several marine surveys will be undertaken in Baldoyle Bay, between Portmarnock and north of Ireland’s Eye. This will include a dye trace survey that will involve the release of a fluorescent dye into the water so that the direction and speed of sea currents can be measured and understood. The dye may be visible in the sea like in the picture below, but is not a pollutant and will not pose any harm to the environment.

The GDD project team continue to be available each weekday by phone (lo-call 1890 44 55 67) and email (info@greaterdublindrainage.ie) to provide information, answer queries and gather feedback about the project.

Further information about this survey and other ongoing studies, including Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) and an information video about the project is available on our website where you can also subscribe directly for project updates, including news of forthcoming studies and events, via email.
