Bundaberg Rum Invitation for Sports Boat fleet -Skandia Geelong Week

by Fiona Greig on 16 Oct 2006
A RUM INVITATION SW
Skandia Geelong Week, January 2007 will be the place to be for all sports boats as they hold the National Championship in style, celebrating the 10th anniversary.

Over the past nine years this highly competitive series has attracted entrants from all over Australia and each year the successful crew are presented with the now famed winners jackets.

Last year’s South Australian winner Julian Newton sailing Game Over said of his January win 'The Bundaberg Rum National Sports Boat Championship was highly competitive and we were thrilled to win. This year was the first time we have travelled to Skandia Geelong Week and we loved it. Of course we loved it even more because we won. Skandia Geelong Week is a very professional sailing event and the shore side activities are fantastic. We hope to back there again next year to defend our title.'

In 2007 the tradition will continue and we are anticipating a record fleet will assemble to celebrate the 10th anniversary.

The Bundaberg Rum National Sports Boat Championship is a division that is expected to grow in size and stature after organisers embarked on a national promotional campaign to celebrate the 10th anniversary. Event Coordinator Doug Jarvis said, 'We have always placed a high value on the sports boat division and we are hoping for a huge fleet in 2007'.

Bundaberg Rum (Diageo) has been a generous supporter throughout and they helped fund an anniversary campaign that should reach every sports boat owner in Australia. When combined with the Sailing Scene Elliot 7 Nationals we may see in excess of 50 sports boats visiting', Jarvis continued.

The Bundaberg Rum National Sports Boats Championship commence racing on Corio Bay on Thursday 25th. The historic passage race from Williamstown to Geelong is scheduled for Australia Day Friday 26th, and that is when Geelong really fires up and puts on a show until Sunday 28th.

In recognition of this milestone Bundaberg Rum and the event organisers have put together 100 commemorative packs to encourage sports boats skippers to enter.

If you would like to receive this pack, which includes a one-off design Skandia Geelong Week/Bundaberg Rum sports bag containing event information and some great giveaways, send your details to wendy@rhumblinemarketing.com.au.
