America's Cup history was made on September 13, 2010 when BMW/Oracle announced that AC34 will be raced in wingsail-powered multi-hulls. A new era is dawning, but would you rather see, an AC34 featuring monohulls or multi's? Or rather than watch multihulls in the AC would you rather watch closely matched monohulls in the World Match Racing Tour?

Speaking of monhull match racing, Ben Ainslie (GBR) and his TeamOrigin added a second World Match Racing Tour Argo Gold Cup to their already-crowded trophy cabinet by defeating Jesper Radich (DEN) Gaastra Racing Team in Stage 8 of this heady event. Says Ainslie of the experience: 'We made it hard for ourselves and had a battle all the way through but maybe what doesn't kill you, makes you stronger. We had fantastic racing against Jesper—it was classic stuff, as good as match racing ever gets.' Promising American match racer Taylor Canfield of St. Thomas, USVI, finished a very respectable sixth. Keep your eyes peeled for this talented skipper in future events.

Meanwhile, the highly anticipated Velux 5 Oceans Race kicks off on October 17. The race village is now open, and each skipper is making their final preparations before heading off on a solo, 30,000-mile adventure of a lifetime. The race is broken up into a series of five ocean sprints, with breaks ashore after each all-out effort. American Brad Van Liew—already a solo-racing legend—will be racing his Le Pingouin, the only boat to be flying Old Glory. Be sure to check out the skipper profile on Van Liew in this issue, and keep your fingers crossed for the home team.
