Audi TP52 World Championship - Azzurra ready for Porto Cervo battle

The yacht flying the burgee of Yacht Club Costa Smeralda is all set to battle it out on her home waters for the Audi TP52 World Championship.

The Audi TP52 World Championship, also counting as the second stage of the Barclays 52 Super Series, gets underway tomorrow, June 10th. Azzurra, the reigning vice-champion, is currently holding the second place in the provisional overall leaderboard, after the circuit's opening event in Capri.

The nine competitors held today their practice race under very light and unstable wind conditions. This pattern will persist during the first part of the event while the Mistral could kick in towards the end of the week. For this reason, the coastal races have been brought forward to the first three days, while the culmination of the event will see the TP52 fleet compete in the windward/leeward races that require a more stable breeze.

This is what Azzurra's skipper Guillermo Parada stated ashore after the end of the practice race: 'The Audi TP52 World Championship starts tomorrow on Azzurra's home waters with a coastal race which is a completely different game from today's windward/leeward practice race. We are, obviously, excited to race on Costa Smeralda's waters and we feel ready. Vasco arrived just yesterday but we are a well-oiled machine working together and that is perfect!'
