Shorthaul Sportsboat start - SSANZ Triple Series Baltic 50 Deb Williams
It’s all on for the Baltic 50, the final race of the SSANZ Safety at Sea Triple Series this weekend, with the series handicap results so far showing its close at the top for a number of divisions. Over 100 boats are expected to compete in the shortest race of the series and a benign 15 knots is forecast for the Hauraki Gulf on Saturday.

As expected, the series results for the competitive Young 88s and Farr 1020s are tight at the top after 2 races. While Hard Labour is currently leading the 1020s on Line and Handicap, L’Avanti and Gambier are only 1 point behind tied for second. In the Young 88s there’s only 1 point between Mindbender and Crowded House and 3 points back to Legless.

In the Smallboat divisions the series results are even closer. Snifter (Pied Piper) and Clandestine Jet (Ross 830) are currently tied for first in the Light/Medium Displacement Division, with Crocodile (Elliott 770) 4 points away in third place. For the Heavy Displacement Smallboat division Reliant (Reactor) and Hot Prospect (Marauder) are first equal on 3 points with Elly (Tracker 7.7) only 3 points back.

The course for the Longhaul boats is 50nm for this race so it’s hoped that all boats will cross the finish line off Islington Bay in daylight. For updates during the race check out the Facebook page https://www.facebook.com/ssanz.inc/ and the website www.ssanz.co.nz will have tracker positions, photos and results posted almost real time.
