The performances of Alfa Romeo, Wild Oats XI, ICAP Leopard, Investec Loyal and RAN confirm the status of Southern Spars rigs at the forefront of the world's leading offshore yachting events.

Southern Spars has unparalleled experience in building carbon spars and EC6+ carbon rigging for the world's top grand prix and offshore racing yachts. Earlier in 2009, Southern Spars achieved a notable feat with the fully rigged Ericsson Racing Team and PUMA leading home in the 2008-2009 Volvo Ocean Race and all finishers in the Volvo Ocean Race using Southern Spars EC6+ carbon rigging.

Neville Crichton and Bob Oatley have long been stalwart clients at Southern Spars and Alfa Romeo and Wild Oats XI have carried full Southern Spars carbon masts and EC6+ carbon rigging for several years.

'Neville and his Alfa Romeo team have had astonishing record setting passages in the Transpac Race and our local Coastal Classic here in New Zealand in 2009. His victory in the Rolex Sydney Hobart 2009 is a fantastic culmination of both a fabulous year and a great few years of his Alfa Romeo campaigning all over the world. ' says Mark Hauser, Sales Director at Southern Spars.

'It was also great to see ICAP Leopard and RAN, both top rate campaigns that enjoyed 2009 Fastnet Race successes, venture downunder and perform so creditably in the Sydney Hobart race' noted Hauser.

In addition to the IRC maxis and mini-maxis, Southern Spars has its carbon spars and EC6+ carbon rigging on Rolex Sydney Hobart corrected time contenders, including Loki, Yendys and Limit.

Southern Spars also made its design and build resources available to Grant Wharrington in his endeavours to try to modify the spare mast he has secured from Neville Crichton.

While they had no previous association with Grant Wharrington and his Etihad Stadium maxi yacht, Southern Spars provided every possible assistance to help get Etihad Stadium ready for the Rolex Sydney Hobart 2009 race.
