Sail-World NZ - May 22 - Only a few more sleeps
| Emirates Team New Zealand back sailing on the Great Sound Emirates Team New Zealand | Welcome to Sail-World.com's New Zealand e-magazine for May 22, 2017
This is a short, brief editorial, as I am heading to Bermuda tomorrow, on Tuesday May 23.
It will be a nice change to be in Bermuda and able to report first hand and running our own images.
As mentioned previously I hope to be on site for the first couple of days of the buildup and then start of the Qualification Series through to the end of the Match. I will be doing photography and reporting with an excellent vantage point from on the water. There are some limits on what can be produced - one of which is no video from the water.
I am expecting to have the first coverage on Sail-World.com about an hour after the finish of the final race and will keep going until the day is done - which is usually about 2.00am the following day local time.
Sail-World will be carrying plenty of unique content as well as the usual team reports and official coverage. So stay tuned and please pass the message onto other America's Cup fans of what we think will be great coverage.
Having covered the 2010 and 2013 America's Cups from the water, I confident of being able to do an even better job from Bermuda, than before.
Practice Session 5 turned into a non-event.

Emirates Team New Zealand were taken out in Race 12 start by Land Rover BAR - who shunted them and picked up a start mark as well, causing significant damage to the Kiwis as reported on Sail-World.com at the time.
While there was initial outrage, in the grand scheme of things there was no real sailing time lost as the wind decided to abandon Bermuda. While the Emirates Team New Zealand shore team had their work cut out, several new features were added.
For now it is just a matter of counting down the days.
At this stage, according to the long range forecast from Predictwind.com it would appear that there may be too much wind to sail on Friday May 26 (local time), with the breeze easing a little on the Saturday and Sunday, local time.
For those with Sky TV the broadcast starts most days at 5.00am. Whether that is with an international commentary or a local commentary from Peter Lester and Martin Tasker remains to be seen. On the opening day, May 26, racing starts two hours later (7.00am in New Zealand on May 27), and then will revert to the earlier time of 5.00am.
Sky Tv are selling a fan pass for $100/mth for those who do not have a Sky Sports subscription - meaning to see all the regatta you will probably need a two-month fan pass.
NewstalkZB/Radio Sport will be carrying a live commentary from Peter Montgomery - which is a very good option. PJ will have several technical experts with him in the studio - you can hear his commentary on Radio Sport.
