Swordfish Open Meeting at at Hornsea Sailing Club

The annual open at Hornsea S.C. on 17-18 September proved extremely exciting once again. The first race got underway with a force 5 gusting 6 blowing up the Mere!
The wild wind was blamed for the fact most of the fleet sailed away from the first start not realising there was a general recall. Two boats battled for the lead when the race did start with 215, Pip Warner crewed by Andy Earle just taking the line honours from 216, Alan and Helen Beecham. In an only slightly less windy race two 183, Nick Eggett and Alastair Smith took a port end flyer and were never headed. Brian Ruston and Mike Mooney in the newly aquired boat 50 were 2nd .
Sunday bought a less windy force 4 for the 3rd race with 183 again leading the way followed by 211 Peewee Williams and Steve Clay. Race 4 saw new leaders with 50 winning and in a closely fought race for the minor places 216 hung on from 155, Andy Gilding and Nial Adams. A depleted fleet, due mainly to exhaustion, sailed a very competitive last race in a more gentle breeze. 183 took the line honours and with it the series.
