Finn Open and U29 European Championship 2026 at Gdynia, Poland - Day 3

by Robert Deaves 25 Jun 09:53 PDT 20-27 June 2026

No racing was possible on the third day of the 2026 Open and U29 Finn European Championship in Gdynia, Poland, due to very light winds. 98 Finns from 17 countries are taking part in the event.

The warm and light wind conditions continued on Thursday, though the wind was expected to develop from the north-east during the day. The fleet was sent out late morning in a developing north-easterly but were sent in again after an hour as the wind fizzled away during the hot afternoon.

Principal Race Officer, Michal Jodlowski, kept hope alive that some north-easterlies might move in and that racing might be possible. As the afternoon wore on however, this seemed more and more unlikely, with racing for the day finally abandoned at 17.30.

Two days remain in the event. Bas de Waal, from The Netherlands, leads after three races from Poland’s Michal Krasodomski, and Britain’s John Greenwood. Krasodomski also leads the U29 Championship.

The forecast for the next two days is also challenging with high temperatures and light winds, so the hope remains for a thermal to complete the series. One more race is needed for a valid event with two more needed for a discard. With many favourites carrying a letter score, they are really hoping for at least two more races.

Racing continues on Friday with three races planned. The series concludes on Saturday.
