Enterprise Training Weekend at Largo Bay Sailing Club

A enthusiastic fleet of Enterprise sailors didn't let the weather reports put them off as the fleet gathered for an early-season training weekend at Largo Bay Sailing Club in Fife.
Eight Enterprise teams from across Scotland, the North of England and the Midlands made the journey, joined by two additional visiting crews, creating a lively and varied group eager to sharpen their sea-sailing skills.
The weekend was led by Andy Davies of HD Sails, whose experience and insight were invaluable throughout the two days. Unfortunately, strong winds sweeping across Largo Bay meant that any realistic chance of getting afloat was firmly canned for both Saturday and Sunday.
However, the conditions did little to dampen the enthusiasm of the fleet. Saturday quickly turned into an engaging and informative day ashore, with sailors gathering to discuss the finer points of sea sailing, rig mechanics and boat set-up. Informal sessions around the boats soon developed into hands-on tuning discussions, with Andy sharing practical tips on sail shape, rig tension and set-up for coastal conditions.
The social side of the class was equally well represented. Saturday evening saw the group enjoy a three-course meal at the Upper Largo Hotel before continuing the evening at the ever-welcoming Railway Inn. True to form, the Enterprise fleet proved once again that its off-water gatherings are every bit as strong as its racing.
Sunday brought even stronger winds, this time accompanied by persistent rain, firmly ending any remaining hopes of sailing. Instead, the fleet gathered once more for lively discussions on race starts, positioning on sea courses and tactical decision-making in tidal waters.
The group was a healthy mix of experienced sea sailors, inland racers looking to broaden their horizons and crews new to the fleet altogether. The variety of experience created an open and welcoming atmosphere, ensuring there was something for everyone to take away from the weekend.
While the boats never left the shore, the weekend proved hugely valuable, with plenty of shared knowledge, tuning advice and tactical discussion. The fleet now looks forward to putting the tips and tricks into practice on the water and hopes to see everyone lining up on the start line again soon.
