P Class: Zofia Wells off to a flying start in PredictWind Tanner Cup - Day 1

Zofia Wells (Glwendowie BC), got 2026 off to a great start with very consistent sailing on opening day in the PredictWind Tanner Cup, being sailed from Kohimarama Yacht Club in Auckland.
Wells (Glendowie BC) was the top female skipper in the 2025 Optimist Nationals, placing 4th overall in the Open fleet. Today she returned a 1, 2, 1 scorecard after three races were sailed in an 8-12kts northerly breeze, She leads the 17 boat fleet by 5pts.
In the inter-regional competition, Wells (Auckland) leads two North Harbour skippers, Greta Hutton (Murrays Bay SC) and Noah Pettersen (Wakatere BC), who are on 9pts and 10pts respectively.
Luca Blundell (Charteris Bay YC) is the top sailor from outside the old Auckland Province, the Canterbury sailor started the day with two third places, but finished seventh in the third race of the day.
Lauchy Wills (Howick SC) was another consistent performer scoring two fifths and a fourth place to lie in fifth place on the overnight leaderboard.
Racing continues on the Waitemata Harbour on Tuesday, with a further three races scheduled. Discard races are permitted once five race have been sailed.
Only two female sailors have won the Tanner Cup, double Olympic medalist, SailGP and Womens America's Cup sailor, Jo Aleh, and 2024 Olympic Bronze medalist in the Nacra 17, Erica Dawson.
