Pwllheli Winter Series Weekend 1

Last weekend was the first of two weekends of the Pwllheli Winter Series. As Pwllheli Sailing club were winners of the ISORA team trophy again this year, many of our skippers and crews were away at the ISORA prize-giving in Dun Laoghaire. Consequently, boats were thin on the... er,... water.
Due to a poor forecast for Sunday, competing boats agreed to run both races on Saturday, when conditions looked better.
Race 1 was set in 12 knots breeze South-Westerly. All boats had a clean start. Nigel Ingram's XP33 Darling got away to an early lead, which they held all race. J70 Mojito Bach rounded second followed closely by Paul and Sam Kitteringham's Elan 350, Finally. The downwind leg saw a close battle between Mojito Bach and Finally but sub planing conditions meant the J70 couldn't pass Finally. However a snapped main halyard caused Finally to retire early, leaving Darling to finish 1st and Mojito Bach 2nd.
Race 2 was set as a shorter course to avoid tidal constraints. Darling led again throughout race leaving Mojito Bach to take second place.
Darling lead the series but with discards kicking in, there is still time to make your mark on the series table. The next racing weekend, weekend 2 of the winter series, is on 22nd and 23rd November. All boats and crews welcome to join the racing.
