The Brazilian city of Fortaleza has been chosen to host the one-person events at the 2027 World Sailing Championships.

The move, which will see Fortaleza host the one-person events in the first quarter of 2027, together with the decision to host the two-person events in Gdynia, Poland in the summer of 2027, will ensure an exciting year of Olympic class sailing ahead of the LA 2028 Olympic Games.

Fortaleza is the capital of the seaside state of Ceará and a popular sailing destination with a strong record of hosting international events in many World Sailing classes. The venue will stage the Men's and Women's Kite, Men's and Women's Windsurfing, Men's and Women's Dinghy, and Para Inclusive events.

The event will be delivered in partnership with CB Vela - the Brazilian sailing federation - with support from the City of Fortaleza, the Marina Hotel and the Iate Clube Fortaleza.

Quanhai Li, World Sailing President, said, "We are very pleased to choose Fortaleza as hosts of the World Sailing Championship and have complete confidence that the venue will continue to build on its sailing legacy. This will be the first time we will use a split format for the World Sailing Championships which will help to grow the sport and allow sailors to compete in the most suitable conditions for their event. The facilities in Fortaleza are exceptional and conditions will be ideal for the one-person events, and we are sure that sailors and visitors alike will have a wonderful experience in Brazil."

David Graham, World Sailing CEO, added, "The city of Fortaleza submitted an excellent bid proposal, and we are delighted to award the event to CB Vela. The city possesses all the facilities required to host an event of this size and has successfully held several national and world championship events in the past. The chance to share this event with the city of Fortaleza and the South American sailing community is an exciting opportunity we are all looking forward to."

Marco Aurelio, CB Vela President, said: "Hosting the World Sailing Championships is a wonderful opportunity for Fortaleza as we look to cement the city's reputation as a sailing destination on the global stage. We look forward to working with the World Sailing team to deliver an event which will give some of the world's greatest athletes a stage on which to shine."

The decision to award the one-person events to Fortaleza came after Real?Club?Náutico?Valencia withdrew from the hosting process.

The two-person events will be held in Gdynia, Poland, in the summer of 2027 as part of the annual Gdynia Sailing Days festival and will be organised by Polish Yachting Association in partnership with the Ministry of Sport and Tourism of the Republic of Poland, the devolved government of Pomeranian Voivodship and the City of Gdynia.
