Noble Marine / Ovington ILCA 4 Qualifier 2 at the WPNSA

20 knots, sunshine and dolphins, what more could you ask for?
On Saturday: 66 keen, excited ILCA 4 sailors were ready for a one-of-a-kind day of racing. Around 35 knots on the harbour wall saw racing to be cancelled for the day with an early start planned for Sunday. Ali Young was running coaching sessions in the hanger all day for everyone to attend if they wished.
Sunday saw an early start, with an 8 o'clock tips talk by sailing legend Alison Young and a 9 o'clock launch. We were ready and raring to race. Hyped up by the whistle of wind, and the sea of white horses just visible through the harbour entrance, we were all looking forward to the 20-25 knot forecast.
Our winter of training on small start lines gave us all a false sense of security. Our first proper start in 4 months! Everyone was nervous about being called over, so we were all reserved in our positioning.
Race 1 saw Max steel take the lead with Fred Salter and Henry Redmond closely behind.
Race 2 saw Max steel win again with Robin Phipps and Henry Redmond taking 2nd and 3rd place.
Race 3 saw Henry Redmond take the lead and Max steel taking 2nd and Robin Phipps taking 3rd place.
Race 4 saw Edwin Cross win and Henry behind with Aimee Bray 3rd.
Overall Max Steel took home pole position with Henry Redmond and Edwin Cross closely following behind. First girl went to Aimee bray finishing 6th overall.
The ILCA4 Fleet would like to thank all those at WPNSA both on-shore and on the water teams for a great day of racing. Also all the volunteers from UKLA who made the day run so smoothly.
