Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina, a private-island resort in the British Virgin Islands, will host the Scrub Island Invitational during the 49th Annual BVI Spring Regatta & Sailing Festival (BVISR) scheduled for March 28- April 3, 2022. This is the fifth year that the prestigious Resort has hosted and sponsored the Invitational event, an 11-mile race to Scrub Island followed by a fabulous barbeque party and prize-giving on Wednesday, March 30, 2022.

"Located in the sailing capital of the world, we're thrilled our resort will, once again, be a significant partner of this tremendous event," stated Scrub Island Resort, Spa & Marina General Manager Michael Schoonewagen. "Our 55-slip marina provides a luxurious haven and a perfect home base for exploring the territory's natural wonders."

More than 20 teams from the Bareboat classes are registered to race in the Scrub Island Invitational, including the Botin 52 FOX, from San Diego, a first timer to BVISR. FOX owner, Victor Wild is excited to have his beautiful boat in the Caribbean.

"We're mostly looking forward to going racing in a gorgeous part of the world!" Wild smiled.

The Scrub Island Invitational is a perfect warmup race for many bareboat crews concurs Robert Phillips, Race Chairman. "It's an opportunity for sailors to experience the weather, winds and water conditions of the BVI as they get to know the boat that they will be racing during Spring Regatta."

The course taken will depend on weather and conditions, nonetheless racers will enjoy breathtaking views as they make their way to Scrub Island. Post racing, Scrub Island Resort will host the crews, their families and friends, and race officials along the Grand Pavilion Patio, Donovan's Beach and lower level of the main Resort swimming pool. The festive afternoon celebration will feature live music, a barbeque lunch, specialty drinks and the awards ceremony.

The BVI Regatta committee is focused on offering world class racing. All participants will have to comply with guidelines that are set by the BVI Government and the Event Organizers. These guidelines are found on the BVI Government site as well as the BVI Spring Regatta Covid update link. Social distancing and proper sanitization will be implemented. Group contact will be limited. We understand the importance of implementing quality measures to ensure the safety of participants and visitors. Racing safely is our main priority.
