The International Musto Skiff Class Association is pleased to confirm an invitation to host their ACO 11th Musto Skiff World Championships 2022 event as part of Kiel Week 2022, with registration for entry now open.

This year's Musto Skiff Worlds will take place over 21st to 26th June 2022, with a one-day pre-Worlds event on the 21st of June, followed by five days of championship racing, as well as daily social activities and a gala dinner for all participants and guests attending the class event.

The annual Worlds typically attracts between 70 and 100 skiffs and is the premier event in the Musto Skiff calendar. The previous ACO World Championships took place in Medemblik, Holland, in 2019, with 92 entries representing countries from both hemispheres - including Australia, South Africa, the USA and much of Europe.

The ACO 11th Musto Skiff World Championships 2022 will also be an opportunity to celebrate the delayed 20th anniversary of the Musto Skiff Class Association and a 10-year sponsorship milestone with the Worlds event title sponsor, ACO, the global market leader in drainage technology.

With its headquarters in Germany, ACO will be welcoming competitors to its home country for the first time as a long-standing sponsor of the Worlds. Germany is also well placed to host the Worlds, boasting two previous World Champions. German sailor, Andi Lachenschmid won the ACO Musto Skiff World Championship title in 2016 (in Carnac, France) and Frithjof Schwerdt won the title in 2017 (in Palma, Spain).

Commenting on the forthcoming 2022 World Championships event, co-organiser and ACO Managing Partner, Iver Ahlmann, said: "The Musto Skiffs have been an integral part of the Kieler Woche since 2011, and competitors from all over Europe have fallen in love with the venue. ACO has supported the Worlds every year, and it is now with our great pleasure to be the title sponsor of the Worlds on the "doorstep" of the ACO Headquarters."

The German Class Chairman, Gilbert Brietzke, added: "The German class association is very proud to be welcoming sailors from many different countries for the Worlds 2022. Kiel is internationally renowned as an excellent venue with challenging waters well suited for finding a worthy 11th World Champion, and it is certainly fully set up for this type of event. As the largest professionally run sailing regatta in the world, we are sure that everyone will be taken by the buzzing atmosphere of Kieler Woche."

Following the cancellation of two previous Worlds, International Musto Skiff Class Chairman, Andy Tarboton, acknowledged that the class is more than ready to come together for a Worlds regatta: "After a two year wait for a World Championships, with two events being cancelled due to the Covid pandemic restrictions, the class is now eager to get sailing and compete for the World Championship title. We are excited to be hosting our ACO 11th World Championship as part of Kiel Week 2022 and we are very grateful to the event hosts, ACO and all our class sponsors for their support to make this event possible. The class cannot wait to be there and get out on the water. I am personally very much looking forward to it!"

Registration is now open with a discounted entry fee of 400 EUR for early registration available until 1st May 2022. View the NoR here...
