Youth Foiling Gold Cup Act 3 at Cagliari - Day 10

by 69F Sailing 30 Oct 2021 12:11 PDT 21-31 October 2021

DutchSail - Janssen de Jong lead. All to play for tomorrow for the remaining podium places.

With a further six races held this afternoon, the final classification of ACT 3 of the YFGC - Youth Foiling Gold Cup is beginning to take shape.

The regatta course off Cagliari was graced with a stable southerly wind of 8 to 9 knots for the entire afternoon.

In a repeat of yesterday's performances, Team DutchSail claimed victory in all of today's races, often with significant leads at the finish line. In the third race of the day, in fact, they crossed the line with a delta of 3 minutes and 7 seconds over the rest of the fleet. They lead the overall standings on a score of 53 points.

Team France, Team Argentina and Young Azzurra are all in the competition for the places immediately behind the Dutch.

The French crew seems to have found a configuration capable of producing good speeds, especially when reaching. Team Argentina, meanwhile, makes few mistakes and has consistently managed to bring home second or third-place finishes. Crew members Dante Cittadini and Teresa Romairone already work well together in the Nacra 15 class, and are joined on board by Ivan Aranguren. Their steady results see them sitting in third place in the provisional overall classification, on equal points with Team France, in second place.

In today's races, Young Azzurra struggled to stay at the top of the fleet, with their best performance resulting in a second-place finish in the third race.

Racing in ACT 3 will conclude tomorrow. The top two finishers will earn a place in the Grand Final, the final event of the YFGC circuit. Racing will take place in Cagliari from 1 to 3 November, with the top two finishers from each Act (Gaeta, Limone del Garda and Cagliari) battling for the title.

Emile Amoros - Team France / La Rochelle Nautique:

"It's been a good challenging day. We got some nice races and fights. We did good starts, taking some risks, and sailed very well and fast on the reaching legs.

We are fighting for second place against Team Argentina. I'm very impressed by their performances and I have to congratulate them.

I'm happy when the new teams gets good results. It shows us if you have some good sailing skills you can jump onboard, sail fast and fight easily with the other teams."

Federico Colaninno - Young Azzurra / Yacht Club Costa Smeralda:

"Today we bring home a series of results that do not convince us. We made mistakes at the start. We often placed ourselves badly on the line and we tried to recover on the first side, where we had some opportunities that we couldn't fully take advantage of. However, the level of the fleet is very heterogeneous, if you exclude the Dutch who are more trained. The French team is having some good races and the Argentinians, at their debut, have grown exponentially.

These days we are sailing with a new configuration and we are trying new things also given the Grand Final, for which we are already qualified. We have taken this event as training for next week, in which we will do our best."

Ranking - Finals - Day 10

54,0 DutchSail - Janssen de Jong
37,0 Team France
37,0 Team Argentina
31,0 Young Azzurra
16,0 Equal Sailing
14,0 Katana Sailing Team
