The Lark Class are excited and delighted to announce their 2022 Nationals will take place at Pentewen Sands Sailing Club, from Wed 1st June to Saturday 4th June 2022, over the Jubilee Bank Holiday/Half Term holiday.
Pentewan Sands was specifically selected to further the class's family friendly ethos that has been instilled over the past few years, with husband/wife and parent/child teams, sailing together at the champs. Bringing the Championship to a holiday venue, such as Pentewan Sands, allows family supports, such as grandparents to have a holiday too with everyone socialising in a localised group, whether they are sailing or not.
This formula, providing a first class sailing venue in association with a holiday resort, has worked fantastically well over the last two Nationals at Rock S&WSC. In recent years Lark Nationals usually take place over the May half term holiday, but in 2022 this week benefits from the additional bank holiday given to celebrate the Queen's Jubilee, meaning those only coming for the event, can do it with only taking take one day's leave from work, whilst others can stay the whole week with time off on the beach before the event begins.
This date, early in the sailing calendar, also encourages others from outside the class to 'give the Lark a try' as it's unlikely to clash with the traditional Nationals timings in the summer holiday season. Those wishing to give the Lark a try email Dan Watson at
Nigel Scott, Lark Class Chairman said "The Class has been evolving over recent years, into a highly inclusive sailing class, and we have therefore been searching for venues like Pentewen Sands that can enhance that family friendly feeling; with everything a stone's throw from the club. The whole week can be spent enjoying the event and without the annoying holiday logistics like transportation and complicated social arrangements.
"Being at Pentewen means for the duration of the Championships the Larks will have a close knit sailing community, with everything on our doorstep through-out the champs, as well as a first class sailing venue. We are already very excited with the prospect off sailing at Pentewan Sands in 2022."
The Covid pandemic has forced us to develop improvements that we will definitely keep in future years, like; full online entry and registration, video briefings, with results being communicated through social media throughout the Nationals. The class are also honoured to be Pentewan Sailing Club's first Nationals in their brand new clubhouse, and believe that the smaller, local venues like Pentewen will be very popular and successful over the next few years.
Alan Krailing, past Lark National Champion, said "Having raced at Pentewan in a previous event I was delighted to see it chosen as the host venue for the 2022 Lark Nationals. As a parent I look for a venue that works for the whole family and Pentewan certainly does that with conveniently placed accommodation, a great beach and loads of attractions on the doorstep. Timing is important with lots of competing priorities in the summer, so the spring bank holiday is a big plus."
One lesson learnt from this year and other dinghy classes, is to book and secure your accommodation early. So if you're thinking of giving the 2022 Lark Nationals a go, then do get in contact via where we can help with accommodation reservations and Lark hire options.
Mike Ward, Sailing Secretary of Pentewen Sands SC said "Pentewan Sands Sailing Club are looking forward to hosting the Lark Nationals in June 2022. This will be the first visiting event to use our new facilities which are currently under construction. We have hosted many championships in the past and it will be great to once more welcome visitors to our wonderful sailing waters."
