Asia-Pacific Yacht Industry High-Level Forum 2020

The Asia-Pacific Yacht Industry High-Level Forum 2020 will be held on Friday 30 October 2020 from 14.30hrs to 17.30hrs. The combined live and virtual event will be televised from Macau and Hong Kong and the online free-to-air Forum will be streamed live with simultaneous translations in both Chinese and English. ‘Yachting in the Greater Bay Area (GBA)’ is the theme for this year’s Forum, and industry experts from the local and international boating community will address topics that include: Development of Boating in the GBA; Cooperation of Yachting Industry and Financial Institutions; and Marine Economy in the GBA.

An integral part of the Macau Yacht Show(MYS) which is celebrating its 10th anniversary this year, the in-water boat show will start on 29 October and run through to the 01 November 2020. The event will host a number of family-friendly and water-based activities that include Junior Optimist sailing and racing, SUP board experiences, ergo rowing, drone and diving photography, and bikini shows.

The Forum starts in Macau with Wang Yong, GM Development and Planning Division, of the Nam Kwong Group giving the welcome speech. The online programme then moves to Hong Kong for Session 1 when three speakers look at the Development of Boating in the GBA. Fabiomassimo Discoli (Sales & Marketing Director APAC, Ferretti Group) will talk about the Ferretti Yachts role in the development of the superyacht and luxury motoryacht market in the GBA. Chairman of the Hong Kong Boating Industry Association, Lawrence Chow, will focus on the Greater Bay Area, and how it is forming a larger network of marinas in the region, as well as the potential growth of sailing as a sport in China. Stuart Hu, who is consulting with the Sanya Central Business District in Hainan will speak about opportunities for marine industry business development and yachting services in Hainan which has recently been declared a Free Trade Zone (FTZ).

Session 2 focuses on the interdependence and cooperation between the yachting industry and financial institutions. Raphael Beaudrey, from Rosemont Trustees (Hong Kong) will looking at the way the needs of HNWIs needs can be entertained through Family Wealth Management platforms, especially when engaging in yacht ownership. Olivier Blanchet, (Head of Jet & Yacht Financing, BNP Paribas Wealth Management) is based in Geneva, and will speak about the close cooperation with Wealth Management services and identify the specialist guidance needed for yacht financing, particularly in marketing, structuring, and loan documentation, making a bridge between UHNWIs and people in charge of Sustainable Development Goals.

The final session of the Forum will address matters that benefit the marine economy in the GBA. Edward Liu, Counsel with Hill Dickinson, will discuss how the three jurisdictions of the GBA Macau, Hong Kong and the other nine cities of the GBA can cooperate by taking advantage of GBA initiatives. From Australia, Leah Trafford presents a case study of how the SailGP Sydney brought positive economic impacts to Sydney in early 2020 before the Covid pandemic hit.

Closing Session 3: Wen Huan, Chairman of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area Yacht Industry Association, Chairman of Shenzhen Ship Exchange, Distinguished Researcher of Qianhai Shenzhen-Hong Kong International Finance Research Institute, and Chairman of Shenzhen Cruise Yacht Industry Promotion Association will explore and outline the improved yacht registration system that will promote yacht charter business in the Greater Bay Area

With the positive growth of yachting in the region, the Asia-Pacific Yacht Industry High-Level Forum aims to connect the boating community both locally and globally at this critical time in the evolution of boating in the GBA.
