New Otam 65 HT one-off delivered, setting the fastest speed ever achieved

by Otam 7 Aug 2020 05:22 PDT

The new OTAM 65 HT has been delivered. The iconic exterior has been adapted to meet the specific demands of a deeply passionate and brave yacht owner, driven by the desire to create a brand new design - a true one-off in pure OTAM style.

  • With its two 2000 hp engines, the new OTAM 65 HT reaches a maximum speed of 60 knots and a cruising speed of 50 knots
  • On the shipyard's 65th anniversary, OTAM breaks its own speed record with the 65 HT One Off
  • Custom-made interiors and details, designed by Francesco Guida Design, are inspired by the world of private jets
  • Carbon inserts are part of the hardtop and deck rigging

At the customer's request, the Francesco Guida Design firm designed the styling and details of the internal layout and of the external cockpit, giving the yacht even more personality and translating the specific requests of the customer with a high attention to detail. The extreme customisation typical of the Italian shipyard is expressed to the fullest in the new OTAM 65 HT, which can be perfectly described as a "Made in Italy one off". This yacht embodies the concepts of experience, research, development, flexibility, iconic design and top performance combined with outstanding efficiency.

"After 65 years in the business, OTAM has broken its speed record, delivering the second of three new units for the 2020 season," explains Gian Franco Zanoni, CEO of OTAM. "To celebrate its 65th anniversary, OTAM has stretched its limits by setting the fastest speed ever achieved, reaching a maximum speed of 60 knots and a cruising speed of 50 knots via a bottom with a 21 degrees deadrise at the stern, ensuring unparalleled navigation and yacht handling. Moreover, this model achieves considerably higher fuel efficiency than other boats of the same size currently available on the market, despite the speed for which our yachts are known worldwide".

Its hull makes it difficult to match the OTAM 65 HT yacht. The sporty and iconic aesthetics in pure OTAM style are also the result of working with a historical partner such as Umberto Tagliavini, from Marine Design and Services.

External design to enjoy the sea

The hardtop of the OTAM 65 HT has been customised with new details according to the owner's requests. One of most remarkable is the absence of doors leading to the cockpit, which creates a large, open-space area (to better enjoy outdoor life) without affecting any of the yacht's comforts - for example, the entire area has air conditioning.

Carbon inserts have been added to the deck rigging

Carbon fibre inserts are not just in the hardtop; they can be found in the deck rigging as well (from the anchor to the transom platform), according to the shipyard's tradition to use technologically advanced materials. Other than creating a chromatic contrast with the white metallic hull, carbon fibre reduces weight, considerably enhancing performance.

Interiors by Francesco Guida Design, inspired by the world of private jets

The interiors and the details of the new OTAM 65 HT, conceived by Francesco Guida Design, are fully customised. The elegant geometries that express the cutting-edge style give the vessel a timeless character and, at the same time, mark a new benchmark for interior design in the sport yachting market.

"The world of private jets had a deep influence on us while we were designing the interiors of the new OTAM 65 HT," explains Francesco Guida. "The contamination occurred naturally and immediately, because the extreme performance and shape of the vessel bring to mind a fast vector that very rapidly moves from one position to another, reaching distant, hidden locations."

Colours, shapes and materials have been carefully selected to harmoniously coexist, giving the yacht a balanced appearance. "Carbon is deliberately in plain view and enhances the yacht's lightness and the use of technological materials, which can even be found in the cabin ceilings, where they are shaped to remind the observer of the central sections of the fairing over the cockpit. The streaks of luminous surfaces evoke the trails left by rapidly moving bodies."

Onboard the new OTAM 65 HT, black carbon mixes with the white of fine leather and high quality oak wood, it too black, creating a strong contrast and highlighting the sinuous shapes of the panels and furniture.

"Breaking our record and delivering the 65 HT to such a brave and passionate customer", concludes Mr Zanoni, "was the best present we could give ourselves. We are now looking forward to our next challenge, the new OTAM 70, which is currently in build and will be launched on the market in 2021".

OTAM 65 Specs:

  • Length overall: 20.30 m
  • Waterline length: 18.32 m
  • Beam max: 4.68 m
  • Max speed: 60 kn
  • Cruising speed: 50 kn
