2019 29er Eurocup at Fraglia Vela Riva - Day 2

by Elena Giolai 25 Oct 2019 04:58 PDT

If the first day of the 29er Eurocup was complicated in the management of regattas due to continuous wind variations, the second was very complicated to say the least. The event organized by Fraglia Vela Riva by delegation of the Italian Sailing Federation and the last seasonal race of the Rivano club, has 100 crews in the water (with boys between the ages of 14 and 20), coming from 20 nations, who presented themselves today punctual for the scheduled departure at 9:00.

The blue fleet immediately departed for it was possible to play a test with a nice north wind at 14-18 knots, which then fell due to the arrival of a front from the south that has brought rain. From there it was a succession of wind from the north, from the south, still from the north with sudden reinforcements and dips, which forced the Race Committee to interrupt the regattas several times because there were no longer any conditions to race with the sudden collapse of the wind. But athletes and the Race Committee did not give up, until after lunch the wind came from the north, which allowed them to start again for the umpteenth time, but fortunately for both groups to finish with four races, so that from Friday they could play the finals with the fleet divided with the best 50 in gold fleet.

In the end, despite the really bizarre weather and consequently the wind that made everyone "go crazy" between a windstorm and a shower of water, we returned with the goal achieved after an endless day. Seven countries in the top ten and in these top positions Italy is present only with Marco Misseroni, bowman of the American Stephan Baker, in fourth place. Leading the Norwegian crew already bronze at the European championships this summer on Garda Trentino Berthet-Franks-Penty (1-bfd-3-1), in equal points with the Swedes Westerlind-Rosengren (1-2-4-2); third provisional place for the Danes Dehn-Toftehøj-Fuglbjerg. With regard to the female category, the German Krapp-Borlinghaus and Schwachhofer-Stoltze, respectively first and second, have the advantage; third the Sicilian sisters Giunchiglia. Still Italy in fifteenth place with the brothers Fabio and Diego Larcher (SCGarda Salò) and the seventeenth with Pandini-Tuci (SCGarda Salò).

Friday morning still starting at 9:00 am with gold and silver fleet and hopefully, more stable weather conditions to proceed a little more serenely with the rest of the program, which will end on Saturday.
