The race course of Villasimius could not welcome any better the Melges 24 fleet that, starting today, is engaged in a three-days of racing valid as a rehearsal for the main event of the season, the Melges 24 World Championship 2019 that will start on October 8th.

The first day, characterized by choppy seas and a steady wind with gusts up to 20 knots, only responds to the name of Bombarda ITA860 by owner and helmsman Andrea Pozzi who, making the most of the challenging conditions offered today by the Sardinian bay, wins all three races held today.

Trying to slow down the inexorable advance of Bombarda, it was the American crew aboard Kevin Welch's Mikey USA835 (2-8-3 the partial scores of today), who occupy the second place of the general ranking, ten lengths away from the leaders, and the Hungarians on Kalman Rozsnyay's FGF Sailing Team HUN728 (8-4-4), third at 13 points from Bombarda. The reigning world champions on Andrea Racchelli's Altea ITA722 (5-2-10) are fourth with 17 points; the Canadian Zingara CAN853 of Richard Reid closes the top-five (4-12-2).

In the Corinthian division, reserved to non-professional sailors, Melgina ITA693 (7-6-8) by Paolo Brescia leads the pack, followed by White Room GER677 by Michael Tarabochia and Taki 4 ITA778 by Marco Zammarchi in third position.

After such an exciting start, the races will resume tomorrow at 12.00.

The Pre-Worlds is the 4th Act of the Italian Melges24Tour 2019.
