Away from the modern trend of multiple short races in a day, the Medway Marathon has provided a perennial challenge for the serious monohull dinghy and dayboat sailor for over half a century.

The 26 mile course takes competitor through the sweeping main estuary reaches of the Medway River and into the mysterious creeks bisecting wading flats of abundant birdlife.

The course runs between Upnor to the west and Queenborough Spit to the east, setting the competitors strategic challenges with the complex winds and currents; the best placed boats also demonstrate high levels of boat handling, concentration and endurance.

This is an open event and many different classes from several different clubs have succeeded over the years with International 14's, International Canoes, Musto Skiffs and Wayfarers all showing well recently.

We hope you can join us in 2019. The race starts and finishes at the Medway YC where there is ample parking and space to prepare your boat. With perpetual trophies and gift vouchers from sponsors Pirates Cave Chandlery there's plenty to compete for.

NOR, SI's and Entry forms available on the website www.medwayyachtclub.com or from Medway Yacht Club, Lower Upnor, Rochester, Kent, ME2 4XB.

Course allows boats to be closer than normal and with more possible infringements The Race Team using the wind direction of SE and 8 knots speed set a narrow course with a wing mark to form the triangle for the triangle sausage format. This effectively gave two downwind legs, a reach along the leeward end of the course and two beats. Posted on 27 Feb
