FAST40+ Race Circuit round 3 at the RORC IRC National Championship - Overall

Peter Morton's Girls on Film has won Round 3 of the FAST40+ Race Circuit with an impressive seven bullets from eight races. Tony Dickin's Jubilee was runner up, and scored a win in Race 7 to compliment their five podium finishes out of eight starts. Ed Fishwick's Redshift was third, as debutants to the FAST40+ Class, Redshift have been on the regatta podium for all three rounds.

Darren Marston took the helm of Girls on Film for the last day of racing and commented on behalf of the team. "The core of the crew have been sailing together for a long time, and all of us have mutual respect for each other, and that is the kind of chemistry that Peter Morton breeds. When I was asked to helm, we did miss out on a win, but I had the handbrake on to show Morty is a better driver than me!" smiled Darren. "We haven't done the maths yet for the season's points. We are not really looking at winning the series, we aim to enjoy every event. We have to approach the last three regattas like we have done for this one; try and do the best we can, sailing as smartly and efficiently as we can. A few teams could not be present for this regatta, but I would like to thank Morty and all the owners for sticking with this class. It is by far the best big boat racing on the Solent."

All scheduled eight races were completed for the regatta, for which PRO Stuart Childerley and his race management team, were roundly applauded by the FAST40+ Class. Especially for the patience and skill in anticipating the right conditions for a great mixture of well-delivered racing.

The spirit in the FAST40+ Class was exemplified by Redshift and Jubilee. After finishing Race 7 both boats radioed in that they would be protesting each other. However, after a discussion between the two, their dispute was resolved, and instead of heading to the room, the two teams headed for the RORC Clubhouse for a beer.

Round Four of the FAST40+ Race Circuit will be the Hamble Yacht Services FAST40+ National Championship, 23-25 August.
