Melges 24 European Sailing Series at Riva del Garda, Italy - Day 1

by IM24CA 7 Jun 11:11 PDT

Awesome conditions today for the first day of racing in Riva del Garda, where the Melges 24 fleet has completed the first three regattas of the third Act of the 2019 Melges 24 European Sailing Series. The event also valid as Act 2 of the Italian Melges 24 Tour is hosted by Fraglia Vela Riva and organized by the Melges 24 Italian Class Association and International Melges 24 Class Association.

The spotlight is once again on Maidollis ITA854 by Gianluca Perego that, in this race course of Garda Lake, last year put the seal on the European Championship. The crew with Carlo Fracassoli at the helm and Enrico Fonda calling tactics was setting the pace of the races of today, also gaining the provisional top of the leadership with partial scores of 1-2-1.

The second place of the provisional top-three is for Bombarda ITA860 by Andrea Pozzi (4-1-4), also winner of the second race of the day, followed in the general ranking after day 1 by the German entry Nefeli GER673 of Peter Karrie.

The first Corinthian crews occupy the fifth, sixth and seventh place of the overall ranking: they are, in the order, Lenny EST790 by Tõnu Tõniste, Taki ITA778 by Marco Zammarchi and Magica ITA764 by Piero Andolina.

After the great racing of today, with gusts of Ora wind up to over 20 knots, the crews are expected to get back on the water tomorrow at 13.00 to complete three more races.
