Lymington Town Sailing Club Wildwind Wednesday Early Series - Day 6

by Emma Bonner 21 May 2019 09:25 PDT 15 May 2019

A light but steady wind led up to the start of Race 6 of the Wildwind Wednesday Early Series and forecast was for it to shift from south east to more easterly during the evening.

With the forecast for the wind to hold and with a flooding tide, the race officer selected an ambitious course for all fleets. Fleet 1 (Fast handicap) had a beat out of the river and continued out to 'D' before reaching East to channel markers 'E' and 'F' before a long spinnaker reach down to BHG '+' mark.

As forecast, the wind picked up with some planing conditions and all 9 boats from the fast fleet finished by rounding Oakhaven Mark and heading for home around about the same time as the other 3 fleets.

In the Medium Fleets Class 2 (the double handers) and Class 3 (the single handers) both did the same course as each other with a good beat out again to 'D' and then a smaller course than Class 1, taking in Sanders Sails 'S' mark and Wot Wot Wot 'W' mark before rounding Oakhaven and finishing at the Club Line.

Class 4 also coped admirably with the tide and wind conditions and appeared to relish sailing around Black and Orange 'Y', West Inner '%' and Oakhaven and back home to finish in good time along with the other fleets.

We would like to thank the race officers Mike and June Baker and the team of volunteers who staffed the rescue boats. We would also like to thank Wildwind Holidays for supporting this series.
