Malcolm McCaig our race officer set a good course for this cold and windy day. The wind was blowing from the north and we had spring tides. The course was set to Berthon, then Pylewell, a spinnaker run to No2 off Yarmouth.
A reach east down to No4 off the island followed, and then a return to the mainland shore against the wind to Pylelwell, and a finish at Sanders Sails near the mouth of the river.
X179 (James Markby) had a really good start getting away from the fleet; a lead which she maintained for the rest of the race. X117 (Robin Balme) had a start in the middle of the fleet but elected to stay out in the tide lee-bowing for longer than the others and tacked on a big wind shift; a move which gave her a good lead over the rest of the fleet - for a while.
In the last beat back X32 (Paul Woodman) and X32 (Max Crow) passed X117. But X179 just hung onto her lead to pip X32 by about ten seconds.
Wow, it was cold, but even so, some maintained it was fun.
Race 2 Results:
1st X179
