Noble Marine Supernova Travellers at Bartley Sailing Club

by Chris Hawley 15 Apr 2019 08:53 PDT 7 April 2019

What a fantastic sail at Bartley Sailing Club for the Noble Marine travellers event. 21 boats made the effort to take part in this amazing event. They were greeted with an awesome force 3 gusting straight down the lake.

Pro race officer Caroline Downing set some cracking courses with some of the best start lines we have seen on the circuit.

Race 1 was the Sam Knight show, just proving a point that winning the 2018 nationals wasn't a fluke. Following Sam across the line was class stalwart Tony Critchley from Bolton Sailing Club. Ian moodie had a storming race and just lost out to local hero Mike Gibson for third.

Race 2 was Mike going for gold and getting a good lead from the chasing pack. Mike was gradually reeled in by Sam who took line honours and sowed up the event by lunchtime.

The fleet were treated to a superb and very hearty lunch from the new catering team of Tilly's galley.

Legs aching the fleet headed out for a third and final race of the day (thanks Caroline for making it an extra long one!).

It was Supernova newcomer Chris Bownes who was first out of the gates. The front pack of Chris, Sam, Mike and Chris Hawley pulled away. After a few positional changes it was Sam who just nibbled passed Chris on the final lap to steal his third bullet of the day. Cheeky mike squeezed past Chris right on the line.

With fantastic competition throughout the fleet and plenty of place changes this really was a testament to how fantastic a Supernova open can be.

There will be plenty of aching bodies tomorrow but the smiles on everyone's faces today make it all worthwhile.
