The Miami World Cup is the second event in the 2019 World Sailing World Cup Series. The event brought together over 500 of the top sailors worldwide across 10 fleets. The Canadian sailors in attendance persevered through long days on the water and mentally challenging conditions to put up some strong results. Leading the pack was Finn sailor and Canadian Sailing Team member Tom Ramshaw finishing in 4th place overall, the best World Cup finish of his career.
After a tough first day, Tom continued to battle through the light and shifty breeze to climb his way through the fleet and into the medal race. The challenging breeze throughout the week meant that results were close as the top 10 prepared for their final race of the regatta. The medal race day brought more light winds but Tom was ready, crossing the line in 2nd and securing his 4th overall result.
"After a tough start to the Miami World Cup in light shifty conditions, I managed to move up and finish 4th, missing out on the podium by just a few points. Definitely happy with my continuing improvements but there's still lots of hard work to be done."
This finish, along with Sarah Douglas' 10th place in the Radial fleet set the pace for the rest of the 2019 World Sailing World Cup Series. Tom was recently honoured at the Sail Canada Rolex Sailor of the Year Awards winning Male Athlete of the Year and was named the Rolex Sailor of the Year.
