Beach Clean-up

Day four of the 2019 City of Perth Festival of Sail started at 7:30am at The Lucky Shag for the Beach Clean Up. It was great to see volunteers, competitors, staff, sponsors and stakeholders all join forces to create a positive impact on the environmental assets being utilised during the week of the City of Perth Festival of Sail.

Over 15 garbage bags worth of rubbish was picked up off the City of Perth Foreshore and disposed of properly! The Beach Clean Up was proudly supported by the River Guardians, the Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and Attractions, Cleana Marina and Keep Australia Beautiful. Thank you to everyone that took part in keeping our city beautiful!

Warren Jones International Youth Regatta

Today was yet another outstanding afternoon on Perth water with ideal conditions for racing. A 10 – 14 knot seabreeze for the duration of the eight flights created the perfect opportunity for tight match racing. Today saw the majority of the second round robin completed leaving five flights left to race.

Local skipper and Colin Mullins Regatta Qualifier, Nicholas came out strong today, putting five wins on the board against high profile competition.

Team Dutch Wave and Prieto-Low had a close match in Flight 28. Prieto-Low got a penalty on Van Beek post dial-up in the prestart. Van Beek then gained an advantage at the first top mark with a jib down dial up. These few boat lengths enabled the team to execute their penalty at the second top mark. Team Dutch Wave maintained their advantage by preventing Prieto-Low from bearing away and then were able to sail to the finish and take the win. The race was filmed live on Facebook and is available to watch here.

In the overall standings, top ranked, DownUnder Racing skippered by Harry Price, has engineered eight straight wins to cement their place in the final series. The tussle for the final three spots is between four teams: Boulden, Egnot-Johnson, Van Beek and Grimes. Racing is going to be hot tomorrow as these five teams are scheduled to race each other to finish the round robin series. Pierroz and Costanzo also have an opportunity to make an impact on the final four in their remaining races tomorrow.

91.3 SportsFM brought their drive show to the Swan River for the second year running to broadcast regular updates of todays races. Make sure you are listening to the live commentary tomorrow and follow our Facebook page to watch racing live from on board the boats!

Corporate Cup

The Corporate Cup is a fun and competitive networking event for the businesses of Perth. The 2019 edition saw eight teams, each paired with a high profile coach race right in front of the Perth CBD. Starting at The Lucky Shag, the teams were introduced to their coaches and then got straight out onto the water for a series of short races. Perth was an excellent host with balmy temperatures and a stunning sunset! After the racing, the guests (Is this the right word?) returned to The Rooftop of The Lucky Shag for canapés, drinks and networking. Congratulations to The Lucky Shag & UWA team with coach, Keith Swinton for becoming the 2019 Corporate Cup Champions and Ford and Doonan as the Best Dressed Team!
