Northern 29ers at the RYA Scotland Winter Championship at Largs Sailing Club

by Andrew Robertson 13 Dec 2018 09:54 PST 8-9 December 2018

Seven 29ers had some great close racing over the weekend at the RYAS Winter Championship.

With three races on Saturday in surprisingly light and very shifty conditions a mix of wind, no wind, rain, no rain, followed by seven!!! Races on the Sunday with Prosecco sailing conditions! Brilliant sunshine, F4. Any Northern 29ers that didn't pitch up because of the forecast, missed out.

Particular thanks to all the sailors from various classes that went back into the waves on Sunday afternoon to help the 29ers get their boats up the slip safely. Very breezy and straight onto the slip so very challenging for the transition sailors so they really appreciated lots of helping hands. Beachmaster's wader were pretty full of water after that. Doesn't look that wavey in the photo but it was.

After then getting up the slip what do they then do - have a water fight with the hose.

Thanks very much to Ovington for supplying some cracking prizes and Largs sailing club and the RYA for their support and organisation. Much appreciated!!

Thanks to the McIlwaine family for making the trek over from NI, including Simon and his camera. Erin said ferry was surfing down the waves coming over on Friday.

Overall Results:

1st Overall - Erin McIlwaine & Luke McIlwaine
2nd Overall - Ben Leffek & Harris Hayes
3rd Overall and first girls F- iona MacKay & Hannah Scott
4th Overall and first Newbies - Daniel Scott & Eoghan Oosterhoorn
5th Overall - Catriona Forrest & Evie Tynan
6th Overall - Stuart Farmer & Orri Robertson
7th Overall - Suzie Sturrock & Maisie Russell

This was the first event in the Northern 29er Traveller series. See you all at the RYAS Springs for the next one.
