Round 1 of the RS Aero US Winter Series 2018/19
The RS Aero fleet at Sanford Sailfest had 13 RS Aeros, making them the largest fleet this year with two RS Aero 5 rigs and everyone else racing RS Aero 7s.
Four sailors were from the north-east, five Aero owners were from south-eastern states and four sailors were testing out the Aero for the first time before buying.
There was an excellent clinic with Marc Jacobi on Friday, vital for both new and experienced RS Aero sailors to build their game.
The breeze was light initially on Saturday but after a postponement four races were completed in building and shifty conditions. Racing was unfortunately blown out on Sunday with forecast for thunderstorms, rain and winds gusting to 35kn!
Derek Stow had a great regatta finishing second and crediting it to extra time in his RS Aero this year finally paying off. Marc Jacobi took the event win and Bob Patterson scored third overall.
Next up in the US Winter Series are the back to back weekends of the Florida State Champs at Jensen Beach and Mid-Winters at Palm Beach. Full details on the RS Aero US Events List: www.rsaerosailing.org/index.asp?p=events&rg=North%20America
