Despite early fog and strong winds, four competitors took to the water, accompanied by two support boats. With a river start, the fleet headed out of the river and west to the first mark (Wot Wot Wot) with a couple of them practicing their swimming technique as a result of some nasty shear winds coming down the course.
The RS700 of Richard Keeton led comfortably all the way around the course and, despite rapidly increasing winds, he sailed a flawless race to bead Richard Lilley into second place.
In the medium fleet the Merlin Rocket of Rob and Jan Martin got away to a convincing lead and despite losing their jib sheets on the way back up the river managed to hold off Malcolm Buchanan to take the Race and maintain a strong series lead.
Once back to the finish the competitors felt exhaustion and prudence ruled out another race and all retired to the bar for a well-deserved drink!
Race 7 of the series is on Sunday 30th September. The LTSC Solent Circuit for keelboats, sponsored by Pennyfarthing Homes, starts on Sunday 7th November and runs for seven Sundays until 18th November.
