The MS Amlin UK Yacht Team moved into Cowes, Isle of Wight for this year's Round the Island Race in association with Cloudy Bay, organised by the Island Sailing Club on Saturday, 7th July. As marine insurance partners for this prestigious event some of the MS Amlin team have competed over 30 times. With over 1200 entries this, the 87th edition is widely reported as one of the most challenging with light winds, a tidal and tactical contest for all.

Whilst the UK Yacht Team entertained Brokers ashore and utilising a RIB under the helm of Business Development Manager, Paul Knox-Johnston, three yachts were out racing in very light conditions.

As official Race Partners for the last 20 years, the event is well known to the team but taking the difficult conditions into account, MS Amlin results were exceptional.

John Macaulay, Regional Manager and Global Product Lead – Yacht, despite having raced with others on numerous occasions was for the first time racing his own boat, a Hanse 312, MS Amlin Scotch Mist in the locally rated ISC Rating Division, with Damian Vaile, Yacht Claims Manager on board. Sadly, well over half of the ISC Division were to retire, some 380 boats, leaving 263 racing the entire course. John's finish after 11 hours and 18 minutes put MS Amlin Scotch Mist in 36th place, a phenomenal result.

Two of our team were racing in the IRC Division for the prestigious Gold Roman Bowl considered to be one of the most important yacht racing prizes throughout the world.

MS Amlin Enigma, an MG 346 under the helm of Ian Braham, finished a highly creditable 89th in the highly completive IRC fleet of just under 400 boats.

MS Amlin QT is a 45 year old Ecume de Mer, recently refitted and raced by Keith Lovett, Senior Underwriter also in the IRC racing fleet. Keith and his team sailed into 13th place in just over 11 hours. As one of the smallest boats in the racing fleet this was a brilliant result.

MS Amlin Enigma, MS Amlin QT and a third yacht, Ruthless, also formed the Parkstone Yacht Club team in the event securing a third place with their combined results for teams from throughout the UK.
