With 6-11 knots of breeze and a flood tide, the fourteen J80s were in for a lovely evening.

The line bias meant the advantage was to start at the starboard end on port which proved challenging, some doing so and others having to tack over for those that made the line on Starboard to block their way.

After heading for the shore and gradually catching the classes in front, the front runners were Traffic Jam (Toby Collyer) and Juno (Simon Cameron) who had gone slightly further. These two were joined by No Regrets (C&H Neve) as they passed Pennington outfall post on their way to the first mark A at Hurst. It was very tight amongst the fleet as they crossed tacks with not only their own fleet but the other classes as well.

No Regrets was first round A but were being chased hard by Traffic Jam downwind as the apparent wind faded in the strong flood tide to Tanners. Wild Cat III (A Ash-Vie) tried to do the hotter angles but it didn't pay. Traffic Jam got a little puff and worked well to get down inside No Regrets getting to the mark a boat length ahead. They extended on the beat until over standing the mark as the wind shifted and almost lost out to No Regrets at the finish. Juno did well holding off Wild Cat III and finished 3rd. There was some very close racing throughout the fleet with Judith (Simon Crawford) beating Checkmate by just 4 seconds.

Full race and series results can be found here.
